There’s Still Hope for Obama’s Change
Jan. 31 (Bloomberg) -- Perhaps, in about a week, HouseSpeaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, SenateMinority Leader Mitch McConnell, Representative Paul Ryan and ahandful of other top Republicans will gather at Tortilla Coastin Washington’s Logan Circle and decide on a new politicalstrategy. It’s possible they’ll look at the country’sdemographics and decide that they need to get immigration reformdone -- and fast -- if they’re going to win the White House in2016.
Perhaps they’ll realize it would be better to getDemocratic cover for entitlement cuts now than to watch the nextRepublican president imperil his presidency by taking an ax toAmerica’s most popular programs. Perhaps they’ll stop pretendingthat pretty much every climate scientist of any note is in on aconspiracy to convince people that global temperatures arerising -- yes, even amid a cold snap on the East Coast -- andconclude that future generations will judge them harshly if theydon’t do something about climate change.
