Hospitals Are Walking Away From Trans Kids. They Shouldn’t

Too much of the medical establishment is failing the test.

Over the last year, through fear and intimidation, the Trump administration has succeeded in shrinking transgender adolescents’ access to gender-affirming care. One by one, programs that previously served as critical points of care for trans teens have disappeared.

The grown-ups in the room — hospital administrators, lawyers, some lawmakers — seem to have decided that standing up for this small group of kids is too risky. Their capitulation is a troubling harbinger of what’s to come for transgender Americans. The medical establishment should know better.
