Oct. 16 (Bloomberg) -- No matter which deal ultimatelyresolves the U.S. government shutdown, it’s almost certain toinclude a new bicameral budget commission. This will be theeighth major budget commission since 2010. Until now, everysingle one of them has failed for the same reason: taxes. And ifnothing changes, this one will fail too.

But something should change: Democrats should admit theobvious. For the time being, they’ve lost on taxes. And you knowwhat? That’s OK. At least, it could be, if they were willing toadmit it and smartly negotiate the terms of their surrender.
