Sex, Power and the Downfall of the Orgasmic Meditation Cult

OneTaste’s former leaders were once the seeming vanguard of women’s empowerment, but an excerpt from Ellen Huet’s book, Empire of Orgasm, shows how they became convicted felons who wouldn’t mind a Trump pardon.

Criminal attorney Jennifer Bonjean has a reputation for defending the seemingly indefensible. Over the past five years, her clients have included Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby and R. Kelly—a dubious who’s who of powerful men who’ve been convicted of raping or trafficking women.

Bonjean has taken heat for defending these men and for her tactics in court, which often include blaming their victims. (She once called one of R. Kelly’s accusers “a pathological liar.”) But she’s appeared to relish the controversy. In an earlier life she trained as a classical opera performer, and she brings that theatrical flair to the courtroom. She’s fluent in sarcasm, is unafraid to wade into a yelling match with a judge and favors loud suits. They cover up the tattoo across her right bicep, which reads, “NOT GUILTY.”
