Chevron Corp. is concerned about the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz as the US attempts to restore transit through the strategic Persian Gulf waterway, said Chief Executive Officer Mike Wirth.

The US and Iran exchanged fire in the region Monday as the American military began escorting vessels through the strait. The escalation triggered by US President Donald Trump’s plan to reopen Hormuz threatened to derail a fragile ceasefire declared last month.
