OpenAI has had a dramatic week, between the courtroom drama of its dispute with Elon Musk and its efforts to rebut press reports suggesting it isn’t growing as quickly as its investors might have hoped. But the company also is thinking way ahead, to a possible battle with Apple, Samsung, Huawei and other device-makers to create its own smartphone. Last year, OpenAI paid $6.5 billion to buy a small design consultancy run by legendary Apple hardware chief Jony Ive.
