Four Federal Reserve officials dissented against Wednesday’s decision to hold interest rates steady, underscoring a deepening division at the US central bank during Jerome Powell's final policy meeting as chair.

One policymaker, Stephen Miran, dissented because he preferred to cut rates by a quarter point. The others — Beth Hammack of Cleveland, Neel Kashkari of Minneapolis and Lorie Logan of Dallas — pushed back in a completely different way.
