Batteries are helping cut Australia’s reliance on natural gas and lowering electricity costs, according to the country’s main grid operator.
Battery capacity more than doubled between March last year and this year, according to the Australian Energy Market Operator’s Quarterly Energy Dynamics report. That has reduced the need for gas and hydro during evening demand peaks and contributed to lower wholesale power prices across most regions.
