Cuerpo Says Spain Wants ECB Board Seat, But It Won’t Be for Him

Spain should retain a seat on the European Central Bank Executive Board in next year’s reshuffle, the country’s economy minister said, while rejecting the notion he might want the role for himself.

“I can discard that for sure,” Carlos Cuerpo said on Wednesday in Madrid, when asked if he’d be up for a move to Frankfurt. That’s what happened eight years ago, when one of his predecessors — Luis de Guindos — took up the job as ECB vice president.
