Trump Opponents Push to Block Mail Voting Curbs Before Midterms
State officials, the Democratic Party and voting rights groups are racing against the calender to try to halt President Donald Trump’s latest effort to restrict voting by mail ahead of the midterm elections in November.
Lawyers for 23 states and the District of Columbia this week urged a federal judge in Massachusetts to permanently block key provisions of the president’s March executive order as quickly as possible, accusing Trump of attempting to “massively disrupt” election operations that are already in motion. A court hearing in that case and a related challenge filed by advocacy organizations is set for early June.
