Lufthansa Adopts Budget Model With Fares That Don’t Include Bags

Deutsche Lufthansa AG is introducing a cheaper ticket that only includes a small carry-on item in the price, mimicking a model popular with budget airlines as the German carrier looks for ways to absorb soaring jet fuel costs.

The “Economy Basic” ticket, rolling out later this month for travel starting May 19, requires paying extra for any other bags — whether they’re checked in or carried on, regardless of size.
