Illinois inched closer to giving the Chicago Bears the tax breaks the team is seeking to stay in the state and build a multibillion-dollar stadium in the suburbs, countering an effort to lure the team to Indiana.

State house lawmakers passed legislation on Wednesday with tax incentives for so-called megaprojects with over $100 million in private investment. It’s part of ongoing negotiations between the team and the state to keep the Bears in Illinois by building a new stadium in Arlington Heights. The bill is now headed to the state senate.
