The Canadian government is closing in on a deal with Alberta for a carbon price on energy producers and other industries, but they’re still haggling over how quickly it will be implemented.

Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith agreed last year on an industrial carbon price of C$130 ($95) per metric ton, and said they would try to reach a final deal by April 1. They blew past that date, but “we’re making progress,” Smith said in a press conference Thursday.
