A key American air defense system deployed in South Korea remains in the country even as the US shifts assets to the Middle East to bolster its military campaign against Iran, the top US commander on the Korean peninsula said.

“We’ve not moved any THAAD systems,” Gen. Xavier Brunson, commander of the 28,500-strong US Forces Korea, told the Senate Committee on Armed Services on Tuesday. “THAAD still remains on the Korean Peninsula currently.”
