Italy’s Giorgetti Says Deficit to Be Under EU Limit in 2026

Photographer: Omar Havana/BloombergPremier Giorgia Meloni’s government insisted Italy can still bring its deficit down to below the European Union’s ceiling this year, even if the economy performs worse than forecast.
The shortfall will be 2.9% in a scenario where growth only reaches 0.6% instead of a previously forecast 0.7%, according to projections released by the finance ministry in Rome on Wednesday.
