Republican Senator Thom Tillis said he would support Congress opening a probe of a Federal Reserve renovation project in lieu of an ongoing US criminal investigation of the central bank.

Tillis has vowed to block action on the nomination of Kevin Warsh, President Donald Trump’s pick to be the next Fed leader, as long as the Department of Justice probe continues. Tillis — who says he supports Warsh — told reporters Tuesday he would consider dropping his objections if an inquiry by the Senate Banking Committee prompts DOJ to drop its “absurd” investigation.
