Average occupancy at Los Angeles sound stages slipped to 62% in the first half of 2025, a slight change from 63% overall in 2024, as the entertainment capital continues to face stiff competition from rival production hubs like New York and the UK.

The city’s famous studio lots had hovered in the 90% occupancy range between 2016 and 2022, according to data from FilmLA, which administers permits for the city and county. That was before the twin writers and actors strikes effectively shut down scripted content production for a portion of 2023 and a general pullback in spending from major entertainment companies.
