Israel unleashed a wave of airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs and expanded its ground presence inside Lebanon, stepping up a campaign against the Iran-aligned militant group Hezbollah.

The Israel Defense Forces said it struck command centers and multi-story buildings and completed what it said was a “broad-scale wave of strikes.” Its jets also struck Tripoli, a predominantly Sunni Muslim town in north Lebanon and killed a Hamas commander.
