Brittany Vickers ventured on a solo trip from St. Louis to Salzburg, Austria, not for the cozy café culture or baroque architecture but to visit the place where one of her favorite films, The Sound of Music, was shot.

“I remember watching it in elementary school, so the chance to live out my von Trapp family dreams was such a full-circle moment,” says Vickers. “Even as I’m approaching 40, I still love The Sound of Music.” The trip to the Austrian city was just a quick pilgrimage on a broader trip that included visits to Ireland, Germany and France. And all it took was a $60 TripAdvisor booking and six hours visiting the film’s locations via a tour bus to realize her childhood fantasy.
