Investors in Japan have rarely been this nervous before an election.

The Nikkei 225’s implied volatility, a measure of expected market swings, which tends to rise when uncertainty is high, has surged in the run-up to the February 8 vote, according to an analysis by Yoshitaka Suda, senior cross asset strategist at Nomura Singapore.
