Yoweri Museveni has led the East African nation since he seized power in a coup four decades ago and is running for a seventh term, saying he needs to cement the gains made during his tenure. While he’s presided over one of the continent’s fastest-growing economies and maintained internal stability even as neighboring countries have descended into chaos, his opponents say he’s using his incumbency to try and sway the outcome of the vote.
