Diageo Distributor Asks Court to Block $2.3 Billion Asahi Deal

A distributor of Diageo Plc’s Kenyan subsidiary asked a court in the East African nation to suspend a proposed share sale to Asahi Group Holdings Ltd. pending the resolution of an earlier case, court filings show.

In 2016, Bia Tosha Distributors Ltd. took Diageo, East African Breweries Ltd., UDV Kenya Ltd. and Kenya Breweries Ltd. to court over a different matter. The UK distiller owns 65% of EABL and has a majority holding in UDV, a Kenya-based spirits producer and importer.
