Opposition parties rounded on UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s UK government, accusing ministers of “running scared” after postponing four elections for newly created mayor posts.

Communities Secretary Steve Reed on Thursday issued a statement saying the votes for new mayors in Brighton, Hampshire and the Solent, Norfolk and Suffolk, and Greater Essex, will now been held in 2028 rather than next May, in order to allow for wider re-organizations of local government in those areas to be completed.
