Madagascar’s military-led regime stripped former President Andry Rajoelina of his citizenship days after his ouster, while an ally was arrested for suspected money laundering.

In a decree dated Oct. 24, Prime Minister Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo said Rajoelina lost his citizenship after becoming a French national. According to the country’s laws, “a Malagasy citizen of full age who voluntarily acquires a foreign nationality loses Malagasy nationality.”
