France’s unions are planning a strike on Sept. 18 to protest against Prime Minister Francois Bayrou’s budget plan, intensifying the political turmoil unleashed by his call for a confidence vote.

“Enough,” said a joint statement from the country’s top unions, including CGT, CFDT and FO. “The budget path presented by the prime minster on July 15 was immediately and unanimously condemned by our organizations.”
