Chicago’s police chief announced his resignation one day after Lori Lightfoot became the first mayor of the third-largest US city to lose a reelection bid in 40 years.
Police Superintendent David Brown said on Wednesday that he would leave his post effective March 16, according to an emailed statement from the mayor, who commended his service. Lightfoot lost Tuesday’s election after failing to overcome voter dissatisfaction with rising crime, high-profile corporate departures and the city’s slow economic recovery from the pandemic.
