Along the Wildwire Wild Thing climb in New Zealand
Photographer: Joshua CrippsLord of the Rungs, New Zealand
Billed as the “tallest waterfall climb in the world,” this advanced seven-hour guided adventure (at $595 per person) is all about via ferrata. No experience is required, just some bravery, as you’re harnessed and clipped in with a carabiner. You’ll climb hilly terrain and cross a wooden suspension bridge as well as wire ones that require you to inch your hands and feet across laterally—then stop by rivulets and hidden pools until a stomach-dropping overhang. And that’s all before scaling the 197-foot-tall Twin Falls waterfall. You’ll be grateful to hitch a helicopter ride back to the valley floor.
