Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. will produce its first NFL-licensed football games in more than a decade, putting the company in better position to secure an even bigger prize: the rights to Madden-style games that are coming up for grabs in 2022.
The company forged a multiyear deal with the league to make so-called nonsimulation NFL titles -- video games that use NFL trademarks and involve football, but don’t have the feel of a pro match-up. Rival Electronics Arts Inc. has the rights to NFL simulation games, which it sells under the Madden name, one of the most lucrative series in the history of the industry.
