English Premier League soccer clubs are on course for a record spending spree on players during the summer transfer window.

Clubs have spent 790 million pounds ($1.2 billion) so far, 45 million pounds less than last year, accountant Deloitte LLP said in an e-mailed statement Tuesday. The summer transfer window closes at 6 p.m. British time, after deadlines elsewhere in Europe Monday.
